Starting at $8000
A slab table starts with a single piece of wood — one continuous surface, grain running end to end, every figure and crack exactly where nature put it.
The table featured here is eleven feet long, four feet wide, four inches thick, in locally sourced Pacific Northwest big leaf maple. Custom-welded steel base with oak support members, C-channels inset into the underside for long-term stability, and dovetail keys inlaid across the splits to keep them from spreading. Cracks are filled with clear epoxy — not as a river table effect, but as a functional choice for a flat, cleanable surface.
Not everyone wants filled cracks. The splits, knot holes, and live edge are often exactly what makes a slab table so imperfectly perfect. I can work either way — we'll figure out what's right for you.
Every table starts with a conversation: your space, your wood preferences, how many people you want to seat. I can suggest slabs and guide the process, or take you slab shopping at a local mill if you'd rather choose your own.
Every slab table I build gets the same attention to the details that actually matter.
Materials
Top: Solid hardwood slab — species selected based on your preferences, room, and available stock
Base: Custom welded steel, solid wood, or mixed materials (your choice)
Structural supports: Solid hardwood, species matched or complementary to top
Finish
Hand-buffed hardwax oil for a natural, low-sheen surface that protects the wood without hiding it
Other finishes available upon request
Construction
C-channel steel inset into underside of top for long-term stability on large slabs
Custom dovetail keys inlaid across splits for structural integrity
Crack and void filling with clear epoxy where needed — functional and low-profile
Base design custom to each project
Traditional joinery throughout
Pricing & Process
Every slab table is different, and pricing reflects that. We'll start with a conversation about your space, your preferences, and what you're hoping for — then I can give you an honest number. Slab dining tables typically run $8,000–$15,000+, depending on slab size and species, base design, and project complexity. Minimum project budget is $6,000. A $500 design retainer secures your spot and starts the process.
Trade inquiries welcome.
